Living root bridges and clouds
Meghalaya's Khasi and Jaintia hills hold cloud forests, limestone caves, waterfalls and villages shaped by exceptionally heavy rainfall. Shillong is the main urban base, while Sohra, Nongriat and the Dawki-Shnongpdeng area reveal very different sides of the state.

Good to know
When is the best time to visit Meghalaya?+
October to April is generally best for trekking and clearer river water. Monsoon waterfalls are dramatic, but intense rain can make trails and river activities unsafe.
How many days are needed?+
Five to seven days allow Shillong, Sohra and Dawki; add a full day and overnight stay for the Nongriat trek.
How difficult is the Nongriat trek?+
The route involves thousands of steep steps and a strenuous return climb in humid conditions. Wear grippy shoes, carry water and use a local guide.
