French quarters by the Bay of Bengal
Pondicherry, officially Puducherry, has a seafront historic quarter shaped by French colonial planning alongside older Tamil neighbourhoods. Heritage streets, spiritual institutions and a distinctive Franco-Tamil food culture make it more than a beach destination.

Good to know
When is the best time to visit Pondicherry?+
December to February is generally most comfortable. October and November can bring heavy northeast-monsoon rain and coastal storms.
How many days are needed?+
Two to three days cover the heritage quarters, seafront and an Auroville visit; add a day for a slower beach itinerary.
Can I enter the Matrimandir without booking?+
The viewpoint and inner chamber have different access procedures. Inner-chamber visits require advance arrangements through Auroville and are not ordinary walk-in sightseeing.
